FROM WASTE TO A HIGH-QUALITY PRODUCT

The ALMAMET International Group and Magnesium Solutions Europe have set ourselves the goal to process 100% of all global Magnesium alloy chips in order to generate a high-quality input material for the iron and steel industry.

Magnesium Solutions Europe (MSE)

MSE, located in Thuringia, Germany was founded in 2004 with the aim of building a globally unique technology for the recycling of mixed metal chips. The construction and commissioning were completed in 2008, with all machinery and equipment required for the chip processing having been developed in-house. MSE has joined the ALMAMET International Group in 2019 to expand its recycling activities and create added value for the steel industry.

The location is certified as a recycling company in accordance with §56 of the Circular Economy Act and has also the operating license according German BImSchG.

In order to make the recycling process itself as sustainable as possible, a photovoltaic system with was installed in 2024. This makes the production completely self-sufficient for most of the year.

The added value created: Lowest CO2 emissions

The unique process at Magnesium Solutions Europe directly benefits the steel industry: Compared to primary Magnesium, our recycling product has a Carbon Footprint of only around 1 %. Along with the use of renewable energies in the recycling process, this leads to tailor-made desulfurizing reagents with a substantially lower Carbon Footprint.

Thanks to its excellent recycling activities and the unique technology in Sondershausen, ALMAMET won the Award of Excellence in the category „Environmental Responsibility“, awarded by the International Magnesium Association (IMA), in 2020.

Each batch is strictly tested on site to guarantee defined material characteristics and to continuously supply the same high-quality desulfurization reagents, which are produced with primary Magnesium.
